Restorative care
Restoring your smile
At Pelsall Lane Dental Practice we offer our patients a wide range of restorative treatments including:
Tooth-coloured fillings
Root canal treatment
Crowns
Bridges
Dentures
Implants (by referral).
To find out more about each treatment, read on…
Fillings
Tooth-coloured fillings match the colour of the teeth, making them a natural-looking alternative to amalgam (silver) fillings. They are similar in colour and texture to natural teeth, the fillings are less noticeable, and much more attractive than other types of fillings, helping you smile and talk with confidence. It is not always possible to use tooth coloured filling in which case amalgam will be placed especially if the filling is large.
Root canal treatment
Root canal treatment (endodontics) is required when the pulp (blood and nerve supply) becomes infected through decay or injury. If the pulp becomes infected, this can cause pain and the infection can spread to form an abscess. Root canal treatment involves the removal of the infected pulp, cleaning and shaping of the area and the placement of a root canal filling.
Crowns
A crown (sometimes called a ‘cap’) covers and strengthens chipped, broken or weakened teeth. It can also be used to protect the space left from a root filling, help to hold a denture or bridge in place, or even hide discoloured fillings.
Your tooth is usually shaped, under local anaesthetic, and an impression will be taken by your dentist. This is then sent to the laboratory, where your crown will be custom-made out of ceramic, porcelain or porcelain bonded to gold alloy.
Bridges
A bridge is used to fill the space left by a missing tooth, restoring your smile. They are only possible if your surrounding teeth and gums are healthy and strong, as these will support the bridge.
It is important to replace missing teeth - not only to improve the appearance of your smile - but to prevent the weakening of the teeth either side, decay and gum disease caused by trapped food particles, or alterations to your bite.
Your dentist will help you to choose the best method to replace any missing teeth you may have.
Dentures
Removable dentures are one of the most common ways of replacing missing teeth. Dentures can replace either a few teeth (a partial denture) or a whole set (complete dentures).
If you have lost some teeth, dentures can improve the way you look, bite, chew and speak. The teeth that are left are protected from wear and tear. Without dentures, the natural teeth may move or tilt, stopping your teeth biting together properly.
The quality and appearance of today's dentures is far better than ever before. To make sure that the dentures fit your mouth properly, the dentist uses a putty-like material to make moulds (called 'impressions') of your mouth. A dental technician uses this to make your denture, which your dentist will fit once ready.
Your dentist will explain the difficulties of wearing dentures, as well as the benefits and how you should look after your new dentures and the teeth you have left.
Implant referrals
A dental implant is a small titanium cylinder that is gently placed into the bone of your jaw to act like the root of a tooth supporting a crown, bridge or perhaps a special custom-made denture. If you have a gap in your smile, dental implants could be the dental treatment you need to restore your confidence.
Whether you have a single missing tooth or no teeth left at all, a dental implant based treatment can provide a long-term solution to allow you to eat and smile without a care.
Dental implants have been available for many years and scientific studies have shown that the long-term success of dental implants is extremely high. For many patients, dental implants are the gold standard dental treatment and offer the ideal solution for their dental needs.
If you think that a dental implant could be the solution you need to improve your dental health and appearance, book an appointment. We shall refer you to a recommended implantologist.

Cosmetic Dentistry
NOW OFFERING BOTULINUM TOXIN TYPE A: A TREATMENT TO REDUCE SIGNS OF WRINKLES FOR A MORE YOUTHFUL LOOK - CONTACT US FOR MORE INFORMATION
At Pelsall Lane Dental Practice, we offer a range of cosmetic and more advanced treatments to help you to improve your smile.
Tooth whitening
Tooth whitening can lighten your teeth without removing any of the tooth surfaces.
The most common method of tooth whitening is professional bleaching, where a tray is made to fit around your teeth like a gum shield and the whitening product is left to work. As oxygen gets into the enamel on your teeth, the active ingredient reacts and makes the teeth lighter in colour. The total treatment can usually be done within two to three weeks, and you will need to wear the shield over night and then an hour in surgery whitening. We use the award winning product Enlighten.
Veneers
Veneers can be used to improve the colour, shape and position of your teeth. They can improve your smile by hiding discolouration, closing small gaps and repairing chips and cracks. A veneer is a thin slice of porcelain, or a tooth-coloured composite, made to be bonded and fitted precisely over the front surface of a tooth.
Veneers can make teeth look natural and healthy, and should last for many years.
Cosmetic fillings
Tooth coloured fillings don’t just look better they are better for your teeth. They can also be glued/bonded in place, require less drilling and reinforce weakened tooth tissue.

Hygienist Services
The main purpose of a hygiene visit is to clean your teeth professionally – this is usually called a scale and polish. However, perhaps the most important reason for it is showing you the best way to keep your teeth free from plaque and to keep your gums healthy. Carefully removing deposits that build up on the teeth (tartar), and teaching you how to prevent it re-forming, will go a long way to slowing the process of gum disease.
A fresh smile is generally a healthy smile.

Periodontal service
Securing the health of the tissues that support your teeth gums and bone the foundation of oral health. Problems in this area are often overlooked as gum disease is, in most cases, not painful and tends to progress slowly. Only once significant destruction of the periodontal tissue has occurred do the teeth become loose, uncomfortable to bite on and prone to infection.
Initial and maintenance treatment is usually carried out by a dental hygienist. This involves very thorough cleaning of the roots of your teeth and intensive home care. We will then evaluate the success of this course of treatment.
